Bhejane

We spend our last night in the Eastern Cape at Bhejane Game Reserve.  It was a great way to end the holiday.  We spend some time watching the sun setting over the mountains.















The next day we drove the last 260 km home on Saturday and Monday it was back to work.

Dutch Reformed Church, Stellenbosch

In March we went to Cape Town area for a long weekend.   During this visit we made an unplanned trip to Stellenbosch and decided to explore the town. I studied at the Stellenbosch University for four years and know parts of the town.   Like most students I did not have a lot of money, my bicycle was my only transport and it was before I bought my first digital camera.   Back then I admired the old buildings but never took the time to take photos of them or learn about their history.   This day trip was a great way to show Stellenbosch to my husband and explore learn about the town. Oak Trees in Dorp Street Governor Simon van der Stel founded the town in 1679 and he named it after himself.   The name can be translated as “(Van der) Stel’s Bush”.   The town is also known as the Eikestad or “City of Oaks” due to the many Oak trees that were planted by the residents after on the recommendation of Commissioner Van Reede tot Drakenstein. Mossel Bay Monday: Walking Marsh Street (1)

In July last year we went on a walk in Marsh Street in Mossel Bay. We went on a Sunday because it is not so busy as on weekdays. Today I am going to share some of the buildings we saw on the first part of the walk.   Art Deco Building from 1920 Built in 1868 for chemist E Powrie and later taken over by Lennon’s Pharmacy Built before 1890 as a home for the James family and was later converted into shops. St Peter’s Anglican Church was built in 1878.    Residential building built between 1875 and 1881.   Now used as commercial property. St Peter’s Church Hall Looking towards the harbour from Marsh Street with the post office on the left. Next Monday we continue with the walk.
