We were up early on our last day in London and started packing.   We checked out and then paid to leave our bags in the hotel cloakroom for the morning.   We then walked to the British Museum but (after making a wrong turn) had some trouble to find it.   We eventually reached the museum just before they open. The museum is big and we had no idea where to begin.   We walk through the Egyptian displays with lots of mummies and statues.   We then decided to go to the Africa section and then walked around a bit more.   In the end w e did not spend a lot of time in the museum.   W e were to tired to enjoy the history and archeology.   We left the museum and bought some food for lunch.   We walked to Russel Square and ate on a bench.   It was nice to relax for a while.   It was still early but we decided to get our bags and go to the airport.   And it was a good thing because there were many delays and it t...

Writing the last two posts about our trip to Europe and London in 2008 was difficult.   Part of me did not want to write the last bit because I don’t know when I will be able to take another trip. While I won’t be writing more posts about London or Europe soon I will read and plan for that next trip. Our time in London was quickly running out.   After spending most of the day in the Tower of London  we took the tube from Tower Hill to Victoria and walked to Buckingham Palace.   The palace was built as a house for the Duke of Buckingham in 1705.   It in 1761 became the residence of Queen Charlotte.   It was enlarged and became an official royal palace in 1837.   Read more about the palace here . On our last full day in London we decided to visit the Tower of London.   A few months before the trip to London I read Philippa Gregory’s books about the Tudors .   With the stories and history in my head we headed to the Tower. We walked to Holborn station but there are a lot of delays and we decide to take another route.   We went from Holborn to Leicester Square to Embankment and finally Tower Hill.   We arrive before the gates open and had to wait in the row until opening at 10:00.  Byward Tower  Bell Tower  We entered the Tower of London and wanted to start exploring. The Yeoman Wardens gives free tours of the tower. After a great time at Madame Tussauds  we were not sure what to do next.   It was still too early to return to the hotel for the evening but we did have anything planned.   I took out my “Eyewitness Top 10 London Guide” and searched for something close.   That is how we decided to visit Regent Park. The park was beautiful and green with lots of people enjoying the sunshine.   The Queen Mary's Rose Garden inside Regent Park was listed as one of the top 10 gardens to visit and we made our way there. And what a great surprise when we arrived.   There were roses in every colour we could think of.   They smelled delicious and looked beautiful.   We walked around for a while but then decided to find a spot to sit and just enjoy.    It was about 19:20 in the evening and the garden was quite busy.   We sat for a while and then walked around some more.   We saw ...

After a busy morning at Westminster Abbey  and London Eye  we went to Madame Tussauds for a different type of sightseeing. We did not know what to expect but was very excited.   We walked into a big room full of people.   Most were busy taking photos.   We were nervous to take our first photos.   “Is that a real person or one of the wax figures?” Lelanie asked me.   I was not sure.   We walked around and started to recognize the wax celebrities.   We started posing for photos with them.   Soon we got more comfortable and were getting closer to them.   We walked from room to room with big smiles on our faces.   It was great fun.
