PE : More churches

In my previous post I showed you some of the beautiful churches in Central Port Elizabeth.  I love old churches and the Donkin Heritage Trail included a lot.  We also visited the following two churches and then I still need to do a post about our favourite church.

The Hill Presbyterian Church
The congregation was started in 1861 when Rev George Renny came from Scotland.  F Molesworth Pfeil from Mossel Bay designed the church after winning a competition.  The church was completed in 1865 and the church hall in 1896.

St Augustine’s Roman Catholic Cathedral
This cathedral is built on a hill in Whites Road and is hidden by trees when walking in the street.  We walked up some stairs to the enterance of the cathedral but it was closed.  The design of the cathedral is based on a church in Selbridge near Dublin.  The foundation stone was laid in December 1861 and the cathedral was completed in 1866.
