World of Birds, Hout Bay

I try to visit my friends in Cape Town once a year.  While catching up we like to visit a different place each time.  For today’s post I am taking you back to Saturday 13 March 2010 when we visited the World of Birds in Hout Bay.

I did not know about this park.  One of my friends saw the sign when driving through Hout Bay and suggested it for our visit.  I did not expect that the park would be so big.  According to the park’s website it is the largest bird park in Africa with over 3 000 birds and small animals.

This was a wonderful outing.  We walked through cages with different birds.  It was strange to walk so close to some of the birds (like the owls).  We had some lunch at the café in the park.  We also visited the snake park and the contact area where a lot of small monkeys climbed all over us while trying to get food out of our bags.

It was a nice relaxing way to spend the morning.  Before returning home we drove to the Hout Bay beach.  But I will write about that another time.
